What does God say about heaven?

Before my father-in-law died he used to ponder the question of heaven. He hated the thought we might just sit around all day on clouds playing harps. Let us reason with God, to see what clues He has left us: Rev 21:1, “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.” God will create a new Heaven and a new earth, which will be the eternal home of the family He is creating. What will this home be like? Rev 21:10-23, “And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, Having the glory of God: and her light was like

What does God say about human trafficking?

There are two individuals involved in human trafficking; the thief, who steals part of another person’s life, and the victim, who loses the freedom we all cherish so dearly. Let us begin by trying to understand how this problem was created. God created us in His image, so He treasures us as a mother does her children, to the point of searching for every last one of us, Matt 18:12, “How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?” Only when we ignore God’s calling and elevate our ways and self-interests above God’s ways, can we even begin to imagine a wor

What does God say about His way?

When we ignore God and His way, we think we are making the best decisions. However, God is warning us, Prov 14:12, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” God’s warnings are not a sign He is going to punish us for doing things our own way. He is warning us that He has seen the future and there are better choices to be made. Like a man with a flag on the highway trying to get us to stop, so he can tell us the bridge is out. God and the man on the highway are just trying to warn us. If we are too stubborn to listen, there will be problems. Both the man on the highway and God are serving and protecting us. God has always ministered us, M

What does God say about politics?

Merriam-Webster defines politics as: “the art or science of government; the art or science concerned with guiding or influencing governmental policy;the art or science concerned with winning and holding control over a government.” Should we worry about who controls our government? How much of our time and energy should we devote to politics? Does it really matter who is in power? Or, is God guiding those in power to do His will and to complete His plan? The problem seems to be our idea of God’s plan. We think it should make sense to us. However, God asks us, Job 38:1-4, “Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said, Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowle

What does God say about the development of Christian character?

Merriam-Webster defines character as: “one of the attributes or features that make up and distinguish an individual;moral excellence and firmness.” It is our character that separates us from others, especially when it is distinguished by moral excellence and firmness. Our character can be observed by the choices we make, the actions we take and the way we treat other people. So, what are the distinguishing characteristics of a true Christian? A true Christian follows Jesus, without holding on to this world, or the past, Matt 4:19, “And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” and Lk 9:62, “And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and
