God's Story, The Bible

The Bible is a beautifully woven tapestry, with many threads weaving through it, one of those threads being God's desire to live with us. In Genesis, He lived with His first two created humans until they chose to live without Him. Then, throughout the Old Testament, His prophets told us Immanuel, defined as "God with us," was coming to give us another opportunity, Is 7:14, "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." At the beginning of the New Testament, Immanuel came, and we hung Him on a cross. Choosing, again, to live without God. However, Jesus left us a vision, Matt 24:30-31, "And then shall

What does God say about judging others?

Does God tell us to judge others? Matt 7:1-4, “Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?” Is God telling us we have plenty of our own sins to work on? Or, maybe, we will never have enough information to correctly judge others. As an example, we would have condemned Saul for his persecution of the early Christian church. However, when Saul encou

What Does God say about the stresses of this world?

“We live in a world overrun by stress. Global urbanization, competition and the spread of technology have created a world in which access to information has become an obligation and necessity. People are now held accountable for their actions and whereabouts 24/7 and they are losing both their privacy and down time.” This is the opening paragraph in an article by Paul Huljich. For the complete article search "Stress in the world today" a news article written December 27, 2012. Paul and I agree on this subject. When I was growing up in the 1950's, my grandparents had much harder lives. However, their lives were nowhere near as stressful. They had downtime daily and were nearly stress-fre

What does God say about freedom?

Merriam-Webster defines freedom as: “the quality or state of being free: such as the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action; liberation from slavery or restraint or from the power of another; the quality of being frank, open, or outspoken answered with freedom.” Freedom is at the heart of God’s creation because His love demands the freedom He allows us. But what does His freedom look like? 1 Pet 2:15-17, “For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.”

What does God say about His will?

God is creating His eternal family, and Jesus told us how we can become part of it, Matt 12:50, "For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother." We can know whether this is from God or man, all we have to do is follow it, Jn 7:17, "If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself." Rom 5:5, “And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” God wants us to know that His Will is love. We cannot demand love, it has to be freely given, and those who think we can demand it will be sorely disap
