Come Let Us Reason Together

Isaiah 1:18, "Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool." Why does God ask us to reason with Him? He is teaching us how to live. Notice, He does not change, we do. Our sins will become white as snow. There are two kinds of teachers, those who tell us what to think and believe, and those who ask us to think and reason with our thoughts. God is the latter.
Because God wants us to learn how to think He gave us free will; Deutonomy 30:19, "I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:" That is why He asks us to challenge everything we think about, 1 Thessalonians 5:21, "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good."
God is not worried about reasoning with us; He already knows everything. Everything we think, have done, do, and will do. He wants us to reason with Him so we can change; Romans 12:2, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." and He wants us to do it with our mind, body, and spirit, John 3:5-6, "Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit."
We have to come to God to reason with the mindset that we do not know as much as He knows, Isaiah 55:6-9, "Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts." We must come to Him with a desire to change when change is required and not to change when it would lead us away from God. This willingness to allow God to correct us is the key to sanctification, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."
This requires trust, Psalm 28:7, "The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him." Do we really trust God? Are we willing to change when He tells us to? Ephesians 4:22-24, "That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness." Do we know He loves us and only wants the best for us? Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." We must trust before we can surrender our lives to Him, Matthew 16:24-25, "Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it." We must believe our lives will be better when we live His way. The only way we will His ways is by renewing our minds with the proper attitude, Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." We have to want to change when it is the right thing to do. Then, when we read His word, we read it through the lens of Jesus's love for us, John 13:34, "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another."
