Laws, Freedom, and God

How do laws and freedom relate to God?

Some people think God is the author of laws. Nothing could be further from the truth. God has only one law, the law of love, John 13:34, "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another." Jesus was trying to tell us this single verse sums up everything God has told us for the past six thousand years. If we genuinely love everyone and everything, we would not need any laws, 2 John 1:5, "And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another." and Galatians 5:14, "For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."

The closer we come to God, the fewer laws we need. The further we get from God, the more laws we create. In a perfect world, everyone would be humble and willing to serve others more than they would want to be served. Maybe that is why this world is divided into countries with different laws. The more freedom we have in a country, the closer it is to representing God's law of love, which allows everyone to either follow God into eternity or deny Him and forgo eternity. The more of our freedom that is restricted, the more the country is trying to keep us from following God. Jesus is our example, and He allowed people to crucify Him. He could have killed all of them by merely speaking death upon them. Why didn't He? Because His law of love requires the freedom to choose whether we will follow Him or deny Him. No one can force us to love them. For it to be love, we have to have the option of walking away without loving them.

So, if we allowed people to freely come or leave any country they wanted, people would migrate to the country with the most freedom. Eventually, those countries with diminishing populations would die. And the country with the most freedoms would dominate and ultimately take over the world, as people would have voted with their citizenship. This is what God is allowing, and kingdom of God is that country. The kingdom of God will be filled with a population who chooses to be in His kingdom, who chooses to love the way Jesus loves, and we must make our own decision, Deuteronomy 30:19, "I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:"

God has placed us in unique places throughout this world. This blog is about sharing His Word; please share it with those you believe would be blessed by hearing it. Bless you!
