Surrender to the King

Why would we willingly surrender to a king?

To answer that, we need to understand what a king is. Merriam-Webster defines a king as: "one whose position is hereditary and who rules for life." So, a king rules for life. If that king is malevolent, this would be a horrible thing. However, if the king loves us unconditionally and has unlimited power, we would gladly be ruled, protected, and loved by that king.

The Bible tells us Jesus is that King, "And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords." Rev. 19:16 & "Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice." Jn. 1837, the disciples told us He is the Son of God and thus inherited the throne, "And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name." Jn. 20:30-31. He told us He loves us unconditionally, "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Rom. 5:8, He is always just, "He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he." Deut. 32:4, and righteous, "If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him." 1 Jn. 2:29. He promises to protect us, "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." Isa. 41:10, and to love us for eternity, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved." Jn. 3:16-17. Now that is a King we could surrender to. One who humbly sacrificed His life for us. "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed." 1 Pet. 2:24. So, all that is left is to prove He really is who He said He is.

He said, "For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost." Lk. 19:10. We are all born lost in this world. However, we can be saved by being reborn, "Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." Jn. 3:3. But how can we be born again?

Jesus explained it to Nicodemus, a ruler of the Pharisees, "Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit." Jn. 3:4-8.

Nicodemus was confused, "Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?" Jn. 3:9-12.

We are stubborn. We want to believe what we want to believe. "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." Prov. 14:12 and "But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me. So I gave them up unto their own hearts' lust: and they walked in their own counsels. Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways!" Ps. 81:11-13. We are spiritual Israel, and we have ignored the prophets, and their prophesies, which pointed to Jesus. We continue to ignore the witnesses, the Apostles, the disciples, the women who witnessed the miracles, and the 500 people who watched an already resurrected Jesus leave the ground and return to heaven, "And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven." Acts 1:9-11. What will it take to believe the truth, which Jesus illustrated? "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." Jn. 14:6. He rose from the grave, ascended into heaven, and there were hundreds of witnesses who lived to prove it is true.

If He is the King and He has made His Kingdom available to all of us, why aren't we flocking to it?
